ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

PYC INTERNATIONAL ENERGY CONFERENCE 2025
Towards Indonesia Emas 2045: Aligning Energy Security, Economic Growth, and Environmental Sustainability
Background
Indonesia has a grand vision to become a developed country by 2045, known as “Indonesia Emas 2045”. The government has set an economic growth target of 8% for 2025-2029, which is a crucial step toward realizing Indonesia Emas 2045 vision. In this context, the energy sector drives Indonesia’s economic growth. With abundant energy resources, Indonesia has great potential to meet its energy needs and reduce dependence on energy imports. On the other hand, Indonesia aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity by 93.5%, a key target in Indonesia Emas 2045.
This year, as we approach 20 years toward Indonesia Emas 2045, The Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) is organizing a biennial event with the theme “Towards Indonesia Emas 2045: Aligning Energy Security, Economic Growth, and Environmental Sustainability.” PYC International Energy Conference 2025 aims to bring together local and global stakeholders, including but not limited to students, researchers, experts, governments, and private sectors, to discuss global energy issues, particularly in Indonesia. The chosen theme highlights the importance of balancing energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability as key factors in creating inclusive and sustainable development that is in line with the Indonesia Emas 2045 vision.
Environmental sustainability remains a significant challenge in achieving Indonesia Emas 2045. The increase in carbon emissions due to massive resource exploitation threatens ecosystems and societal well-being. Therefore, policies that balance energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability are essential. These three interconnected aspects serve as key factors in creating inclusive and sustainable development in line with Indonesia Emas 2045 vision.
Objectives
- To provide a platform for academicians, researchers, experts, practitioners, government members, and private sectors to share and network their experiences in the energy sector.
- To highlight the importance of sustainable development through energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
- To produce a policy brief containing key recommendations to align energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
Output(s)
Based on the feedback and analysis during the discussions at the conference, we plan to produce a policy brief. This policy brief, which will be presented to the Government of Indonesia, hopefully acknowledges the critical need for an integrated and forward-looking policy framework that ensures energy security, fosters sustainable economic growth, and upholds environmental commitments. It will highlight the urgency of balancing Indonesia’s energy transition with industrial competitiveness and social equity, ensuring that no community is left behind in the shift towards a low carbon economy.
The policy brief will contain the strategic policy recommendations to enhance Indonesia’s energy security, optimize renewable energy adoption, and stimulate green economic growth. Another important key point in this conference is the importance of green financing and workforce development to support energy security and economic growth. And in the end, our policy brief could be seen as an important reference to create an energy transition roadmap supporting the ambition of our nation to become a global economic powerhouse by 2045.
